Hazrat Muhammad (SWA): Who Was He?
Islam was founded by the prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SWA). He spent the most of his early years as a merchant after being born in Mecca in 570. Around the age of forty, Muhammad started receiving revelations from Allah, which later became the core of Islam and the Quran. He had brought most of Arabia under one religion by the year 630. In 2015, more than 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide said, "Allah is the only God, and Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) is his prophet."
Hazrat Muhammad's (SWA) Life:
Around 570 AD, Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) was born in Mecca, which is now in Saudi Arabia. His grandfather and subsequently his uncle reared him after his father passed away before he was even born. He came from an honorable but impoverished Qurayshite family.
The family was involved in trade and politics in Mecca. At the period, a large number of the nomadic tribes residing in the Arabian Peninsula traded commodities while traveling across the desert.
The majority of tribes practiced polytheism and worshipped various deities. Mecca was a significant religious and commercial hub with a large number of temples and places of worship where the devout offered prayers to the idols of these gods.
The most well-known location was the Kaaba, which is Arabic for "cube." It is thought to have been constructed by Abraham and his son Ismail, known to Muslims as Abraham. The inhabitants of Mecca gradually became more polytheistic and idolatrous. It is thought that Allah was the most exalted of all the gods and the only one who did not have an idol. Like many others his age who were born into modest fortune, Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) worked in a camel caravan throughout his early adolescence.
He obtained experience in commercial commerce while working for his uncle, eventually traveling from the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean, including Syria.
Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) eventually gained a reputation for being truthful and sincere, earning him the moniker "al-Amin," which means dependable or faithful. Early in his twenties, Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) started working for Khadihah, a wealthy merchant woman who was fifteen years his senior. She proposed marriage to this young, successful man when she started to feel attracted to him. He agreed, and throughout the years, their happy marriage produced a number of kids.
While not all of them survived to adulthood, Fatima did marry Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin of Hazrat Muhammad (SWA), who is revered by Shi'ite Muslims as Muhammad's heir.
Hazrat Muhammad,the prophet:
Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) was a devout follower who periodically traveled to holy locations close to Mecca on pilgrimage. He was in a cave on Mount Jabal aI-Nour, meditating during one of his pilgrimages in 610. Recite in the name of your Lord who creates, who makes man from a clot! God's word was communicated through the appearance of the Angel Gabriel.

Shi'a tradition, on the other hand, says he was greatly encouraged to share his experience with other potential believers and that he embraced the message from the Angel Gabriel. According to Islamic history, his wife Khadija and his close friend Abu Bakr—whom Sunni Muslims recognize as Hazrat Muhammad's (SWA) successor—were the first to accept Islam. Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) soon started to amass a tiny following and at first met with no resistance. The majority of Meccans mocked him as just another prophet or chose to ignore him.
However, many of Mecca's tribe chiefs started to view Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) and his message as a threat because it denounced idolatry and polytheism. In addition to contradicting deeply held beliefs, the denial of idol worship had a negative financial impact on traders who supplied the thousands of pilgrims who visited Mecca annually. This was particularly true for the Quraysh, the tribe that belonged to Hazrat Muhammad (SWA), who were the custodians of the Kaaba.
Mecca's merchants and authorities saw a threat and offered incentives to Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) to stop preaching, but he refused. As the opposition to Muhammad and his adherents increased, they were ultimately compelled to leave Mecca and go to Medina, a city located 260 miles to the north, in 622.
The Muslim calendar begins with this occasion. Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) played a crucial role in ending a civil war that was occurring among a number of the tribes in the city.
After moving to Medina, Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) established his Muslim community and progressively gained more adherents. The Muslims fought a number of wars for their existence between 624 and 628. Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) and his supporters won the last significant conflict, The Battle of the Trench and Siege of Medina, and a peace was reached. A year later, the Meccan allies broke the contract.
Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) had amassed a considerable army at this point, and the Meccan leaders were no longer in control. The Muslim army captured Mecca in 630, capturing the city with little fatalities. Many of the Meccan leaders who had resisted Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) were granted amnesty, and many others.
The majority of Meccans adopted Islam as their religion. The statues of all the pagan gods in and around the Kaaba were then destroyed by Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) and his adherents.
Hazrat Muhammad's Demise:
Hazrat Muhammad (SWA) made his first authentic Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca when the dispute with that city was ultimately resolved, and he gave his final sermon at Mount Arafat in March 632. When he got back to his wife's house in Medina, he became sick for a few days. At the age of 62, he passed away on June 8, 632, and was buried in al-Masjid an-Nabawi, also known as the Prophet's Mosque, one of Hazrat Muhammad's (SWA) earliest mosques in Medina.
