We want to give india F-16s : US Major General Piffarerio
Major General David A. Pifarerio, the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), declared on Thursday that the US is ready to provide India with F-16 fighter fighters. Major General Pifarerio claims that the United States has indicated that it is willing to give India these cutting-edge aircraft.
He did stress, though, that the Indian Air Force (IAF) had the last say on matters of policy. This announcement was made not long after the U.S. Department of State authorized in June a $300 million deal for Taiwan to purchase F-16 equipment and parts.
"The more options available, the stronger the Indian Air Force will be in the future," Major General Pifarerio said to reporters when talking about India's defense industry and the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. He continued, "We certainly want to provide India with our best, including the F-16, but ultimately, it is up to the IAF to decide how they want to handle their air defense."
In a connected development, the U.S. Department of State authorized in June the $300 million sale of two distinct packages of F-16 parts and support equipment to Taiwan. The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed the sale, according to Focus Taiwan, which cited press releases. The sale includes various parts, consumables, and accessories for F-16 jets, as well as standard ($220 million) and non-standard ($80 million) spare and repair parts. Technical and logistical support services are also included in the package.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), by keeping Taiwan's F-16 fleet operationally ready, the proposed sale would greatly improve Taiwan's capacity to counter present and emerging threats. Additionally, political stability, military balance, regional economic development, and Taiwan's general security are also anticipated benefits of the deal. The U.S. Congress was notified about the possible sale, according to the DSCA, although approval does not guarantee that a deal has been signed.
